TOP9 filipino food: street food

here are the TOP9 filipino street food that never fail to satisfy my appetite:
1. isaw
skewered chicken intestines that are marinated and grilled to perfection. i know the word “intestines” makes it less appetizing, but believe me. these are delicious! especially when you dip them in onion-filled vinegar.
2. taho
soft beancurd topped with arnibal (some sort of dark caramel syrup) and tapioca pearls. this baby is not only delicious, but also nutritious… yeah, despite the overload of sweetness.
3. turon
deep fried slices of plaintains that are rolled in lumpia wrapper and sprinkled with lots of brown sugar. slices of jackfruit are sometimes added along with the plaintains for additional sweetness. we filipinos have a thing for sugary stuff, you know.
4. iskrambol
pink-colored sweetened shaved ice drizzled with condensed milk and chocolate syrup. this yummy treat got its name from the way people “scrambles” its contents before consumption.
5. tokneneng
hard-boiled quail eggs dipped in an orange-colored batter and deep-fried in… well, oil. these bite-sized snacks are actually the smaller versions of quek-queks, which are basically made with chicken eggs instead of quail eggs. these babies, like isaw, are usually dipped in vinegar.
6. halo-halo
shaved ice topped with an assortment of ingredients that include bananas, jackfruits, red beans, tapioca pearls, corn kernels, coconuts, sweet potato, (pretty much any topping you want, really). to make them even more special, most halo-halos are served a la mode.
7. camotecue
deep fried sweet potato in caramelized brown sugar. camotecues are insanely delicious, but they must always be consumed in moderation. eating too much sweet potato, as you all know, has… well… air-polluting side-effects.
8. balut
hard-boiled fertilized duck eggs. yes, fertilized duck eggs. i know it sounds gross, but it’s really not bad. in fact, balut is simply delicious. you should definitely give it a try. just don’t look at it too much, okay?
9. squid balls
deep fried skewered balls made with squid or cuttlefish meat. usually served with a special sauce that is either sweet or spicy. definitely a great snack.
